What is on-site laboratory testing?

Laboratory testing analyzes samples of your blood, urine, or saliva, to diagnose underlying health problems.

Most primary care practices refer patients to separate lab testing facilities. But at Candid Primary Care, there’s an on-site laboratory. This allows patients to meet with Dr. Ali and undergo lab testing during a single visit, saving time and energy.

What services does the on-site laboratory provide?

At Candid Primary Care, the on-site laboratory provides various services, including:

  • Blood tests
  • Urine tests (urinalysis)
  • Pap smears (cervical cancer screenings)
  • Sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing
  • Rapid polymerase-chain-reaction (PCR) testing for COVID-19
  • Flu testing
  • Strep throat cultures
  • Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) testing
  • Pregnancy testing

Patients can receive testing for bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections (UTIs).

What does testing at the on-site laboratory involve?

Before ordering lab tests, Dr. Ali reviews your medical records, asks about your symptoms, and completes a physical exam.

If he suspects you have an underlying disease or medical condition, or you have a family history of certain issues –– like cancer, Dr. Ali makes personalized screening recommendations.

You may need to follow special instructions from Dr. Ali, depending on the type of testing he prescribes. For example, you might need to fast for several hours before a diabetes test, since certain foods and beverages can cause your blood sugar levels to spike.

Other common test preparations include:

  • Avoiding strenuous exercise or sex
  • Avoiding certain medicines or supplements
  • Not smoking
  • Getting plenty of sleep the night before

Since the laboratory at Candid Primary Care is on-site, Dr. Ali collects your samples right in the office. Technicians at the lab then analyze your samples, providing most results within 30 minutes.*

When will I get the results of my lab tests?

At Candid Primary Care, most people get the results of their lab tests on the same day that the screening is conducted. It takes longer to process the results from certain procedures, but rarely more than two or three days.

Dr. Ali uses the results of your tests to develop a personalized treatment plan, relieving uncomfortable symptoms and helping you feel better.
